PILOT PREPARATION COURSE
Enrollment in the 2024-2025 Pilot Prep Course is now closed.
Applications to the program typically open in the spring of the preceding training year, and selections are made over the summer.
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
GLIDER PILOT TRAINING COURSE (GPTC) APPLICANTS
Education: Completed Grade 9 by application deadline
Cadet Training: Complete Level 3 Training by 30 June 2025
Height: Between 5'0" and 6'3"
Weight: Between 90 lbs and 200 lbs
Age: 16 by 1 September 2025
Medical: Certified medically fit by a Canadian Aviation Medical Examiner, and obtain a Category 3 Medical Certificate by 15 May 2025
May not already hold any Transport Canada Pilot License.
POWER PILOT TRAINING COURSE (PPTC) APPLICANTS
Education: Completed Grade 10 by application deadline
Cadet Training: Complete Level 4 Training by 30 June 2025
Weight: Less than 245 lbs
Age: 17 by 1 September 2025
Medical: Certified medically fit by a Canadian Aviation Medical Examiner, and obtain a Category 3 Medical Certificate by 15 May 2025
COURSE DETAILS
Applicant Requirements: The Glider and Powered-Flight streams each have requirements for age, education, cadet proficiency training, medical category, and height/weight. See 'Applicant Requirements' below.
Application Process: Complete the sign-up form on this page, and send to the course staff. Signups for are usually conducted in the Spring training period prior to the course start in the fall.
Space Available: Limited to the first 15 suitable applicants each year, approved by the CO and course staff.
Course Length: The course is self-paced, requiring at least 48 hours of content in total. The course will be running between September and December. In addition, there will be mandatory check-ins with Pilot Preparation Staff.
Resources: Candidates are encouraged to purchase a copy of From the Ground Up, as lectures and regional exams use this textbook as a primary source of information - it is readily available at aviation stores.
Fees: Enrollees are required to sell an additional 3 lottery ticket books.
Professionalism: Candidates are expected to maintain excellent conduct, and a high level of attendance and participation at cadet training and events.
SELECTION PROCESS
Central Region Examination: Successful course candidates will write the final exam in January 2025.
Selection Interviews: Cadets who pass the final exam may be selected for an interview by a Regional panel.
